Every once in a while your breath is taken away when an admired friend asks to purchase your art. Deb Rodgers is a fellow Smiley ArtRoom Artist (follow her beautiful work at @debrodgerspottery), and she brings such light, laughter and talent to The ArtRoom Collective! I was honored when she asked to take home this expressive acrylic on canvas piece. Poppies are one of my favorite flowers... their combination of boldness and delicacy takes my breath away, too. #theartroomcolle
We have so much to celebrate this Holiday Season! Let’s start with the creative process... The ArtRoom at the Smiley has provided space for the creative process to take hold, allowing room to explore different styles, mediums and techniques. I'm currently loving the graphic, layered, quick-drying nature of acrylic paintings (and clouds! I love painting cloudscapes at the moment). But I ALSO love the ethereal, gauzy feeling that oil paintings can provide. These two paintings w
Noel Night is almost here!! December 2 will be a festive night in Durango where the whole town converges onto Main Street and beyond to support our businesses, shop locally, mix, mingle and be merry. The late autumn snow is melting from our aspens, and although I'm already missing paddle boarding on our Animas river, I'm ready for ski season. It's a good time to be back in the studio, too! This 40" x 30" acrylic painting was inspired by Durango's Animas River and the sense of revitalization that comes from a wade in its waters, a paddle board upon the surface, or simply being in its presence. It inspires me to think about each drop's journey through the San Juan Mountains
This 48" x 48" acrylic canvas diptych is aptly named "Head in the Clouds," because there's a tangible value in getting lost in your work. Being in "the zone" is a way to exhale, to appreciate the moment of creativity and simply exist in the moment of creation. How lovely! This piece found a new home with a collector in Cortez, Colorado, and I couldn't be more thrilled. There's a joy in spreading your passions far and wide... as wide and the Animas Valley expansive view that i
