Durango-La Plata Airport Mural
“Aspen Community”, 2026
"Aspen Community" celebrates the beauty, resilience, and interconnectedness of the Four Corners region. Inspired by the aspen groves that are a beloved part of our landscape, the mural traces their transformation through all four seasons—reflecting the changing light, color, and rhythms of the natural world.
Native wildlife appears throughout the grove, inviting travelers of all ages to pause, look closer, and discover something new. Together, the trees, animals, and changing seasons create a visual story of place, belonging, and connection.
Aspens are a recurring subject in my work and a constant source of joy. Their interconnected roots and graceful movement offer a meaningful symbol for an airport—a place where people gather, depart, return, and begin new journeys. May "Aspen Community" offer travelers a moment of wonder, welcome, and connection to the beauty of Southwest Colorado.
